Q: Has anyone picked up one of those treasure maps from Volvo that gives directions to a hidden buried XC90?
They have buried it "somewhere in the world" and you have to pick up a map from Volvo dealers, but I dont have a volvo dealer where I live! Can someone tell me what the clues/map are?

A: Please go to www.volvocars.us/thehunt . You have to get a map in order to get the code. Try to call a Volvo dealership to see if a salesperson will send you a map. You can get dealership name and numbers at www.volvocars.com . Good luck and I hope that this information helps.

Q: How Do Car Dealers Dispose Of Their Part Exchanged Cars?
Hi all, I have heard many stores about how amin dealers pass their old p/x cars on. E.g when Jeremy Clarkson bought his Volvo for £1 from the dealership. Does anybody know what the process is of getting hold of these cars? Do you simply walk into the dealership, or will they laugh in your face? Please shed some light!! Many thanks, Eddie.

A: £1 is a lie, but its true you get cars cheaper because dealers do not want to sell old cars on the forcourt , i bought a renault laguna for £200 from a dealer and it is worth £800, i got hold of this because i was working as a panelbeater for a toyota dealer and someone part ext it for a new toyota, so when the laguna came in the salesman asked the lads in the workshop if they wanted it and i bought it, if none of the lads bought it it would go off to the auctions. So unless you know a salesman or work in a garage you wont get a cheap car from a dealer.

Q: 1994 Volvo 960 - How do I reset an airbag on the car?
I am thinking about buying a used 1994 Volvo 960. The current owner hit the guy in front of him and the airbags went off and the passenger side one broke the windshield when this happened (bad design in my mind, but whatever). I can find airbags in a junkyard for about $300, the car is $1500 asking price, but do I need to re-set something to have them work again? There is no visible damage to the car, I have called a shop that specializes in imports, they have yet to get back to me. I called the local dealer and they seemed confused by this and have yet to call me back and I called Volvo USA who told me to call the dealer! For $1500 plus $300 (airbags) plus $200 (windshield) I could have a decent car, but I want the airbags to work and I have no idea if it means replacing a $500 module or pushing a reset button. Any ideas? THANKS for your input!

A: Only a body shop or a Volvo dealership can do this.

Q: Volvo DP Transmission?
I have a boat with Volvo AD41p engines and DP outdrives. The engines and drives have 830 hrs. Recently the transmission began to only engage at about 1,500 RPM. The Volvo dealer here says that I most likely need a new cone clutch, although they didn't really inspect it properly. Transmission fluid is full. Could there be another cause for this - or could the cone clutch just need adjusting? I have been using the boat almost every weekend for 18 months, and it was running fine - the problem just started toward the end of a 1,000 mile trip - so the cables should be fine. It clicks into gear, but doesn't engage right away Yes, it is a job for a pro, but I am in the Philippines and the Volvo dealer's mechanics are for the most part incompetent and fix things through trial and error. There is no other dealer in this country.

A: Volvo drives are the most highly engineered ones on the market and need very little internal maintenance, but saying that your drives are being well used and will need rebuilding at some stage. The cone clutch is cable activated with centrifugal assist, that's why you should never try to shift when the engine is not running. When a cone clutch is worn you will have slippage or high revs and little or no forward movement. Over time and hundreds of shifts the cables wear, the inner sleeve will begin to impede the cables range of movement. The first thing i would recommend is the replacement of the control cables.I believe that your problem will be solved. P.S. Don`t let them use inferior makes,i would want Morse cables. I have been working on these engines for 35 years and i`m cert. with volvo, merc, omc

Q: What is the difference between a crossover and an SUV built on a car frame?
I called the Acura dealer about the Acura RDX, and they said that the RDX is a crossover, and it is built on a car frame. I also called the Volvo dealer about the Volvo XC-90, and they said that it is built on a car frame, but it is an SUV (not a crossover). I always thought that an SUV is built on a truck frame, and any vehicle that resembles an SUV built on a car frame is a crossover. How is it that the Volvo XC-90 is still classified as an SUV even though it is built on a car frame? What other criteria are there for a vehicle to be classified as a crossover besides being an SUV-resembling vehicle built on a car frame?

A: The SUV segment is comprised of two types of vehicles - the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and the Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV-CVT-or just Crossover). There are over forty SUVs and almost thirty Crossovers that make up this segment. When PIN reported that SUVs were on the long tooth side of the dealers lot they were being kind to SUVs. SUVs have actually been on the dealers lot for almost ninety days - that’s over two years in dog years and when a vehicle has been on a dealers lot that long it is no longer man’s best friend. Crossovers are taking up the slack for SUVs by selling in 59 days. While SUVs make up 27 percent of the automotive industry, crossovers make up 40 percent of that market and ten percent of the total automotive industry. What is a crossover? Depending on the type of vehicle you drive, a crossover can look like a station wagon or an SUV. While considered a station wagon by many, Subaru is a car base platform that is known as one of the original crossovers. If you’ve been in a sedan, a Subaru will look like an SUV. If you’re coming out of an SUV, a Subaru looks like a station wagon. The most common attributes of a crossover are; Crossovers are usually front wheel drive Crossovers usually have a lower center of gravity Crossovers typically have less towing capacity Crossovers get better miles per gallon (mpg)than SUVs Crossovers can have a better resale value than an SUV

Q: VOLVO S-80 Needs Repair?
I have 1999 Volvo S-80. I see Check engine lights. Some times the brakes go numb/hard to push, next moment they are good again. Is it advisable to spend money at Volvo dealer or regular service station. I have seen regular service mechanics have no clue about Volvo stuff.

A: A common problem with S80's-S60's-XC70-70 series cars is the brake booster will leak causing a hard pedal, a vacuum hissing noise from under your dash and when bad enough will cause an engine light due to a serious vacuum light. The brake booster is run off of the engine vacuum and the booster has a diaphram, sometime over age and use the diaphram will get a hole in it causing a leak which doesn't give you the boost to push the pedal as easily. The Volvo dealers stock these boosters because they are so common. Have the engine light checked out, it probably will be a short term fuel trim code like P0171. The light could also be totally unrelated.

Q: Honda or Volvo?
I'm in the market for a job selling cars and torn between whether to work at a Honda dealer or a Volvo dealer. Honda: Great cars, great prices. Volvo: Great cars, very safe, gay friendly.

A: Look for better employer, not better cars. Since it looks like you don't really know which one you like better.

Q: where I find used car dealers in Stockholm?
I need to buy Volvo S80 from Sweden. I myself am from Estonia and though that buying one from Sweden would be cheaper. Please if some one will give me some addresses for car lots in Stockholm. Transportation is not a question, also i visit Stockholm quite often.

A: What? Nonononono. I can't be absolutely sure since Volvos are very commonly owned here and might therefore be cheap to buy when they are used but generally it's very expensive to buy cars here. Some people go to Germany to buy cheaper cars, just a tip. Besides I have never seen a car lot in Sweden (or maybe i just don't really understand the meaning of the word).. You'd probably have to go to a normal car store that also sells used cars. Or search on the internet like on blocket.se but then you have to speak swedish or get help form someone who does.

Q: does anybody know what is the pirate code for volvo's the hunt?

Q: 1994 Volvo 850 Sedan: My odometer stopped working. How do I fix it?
I bought my car used and the odometer read 90770 miles. It's said that for the entire time I've owned it, about 9 months. But if I ever want to trade my car in for another Volvo, I'm afraid no dealer will take it because it's a false odometer reading. Is there any way to fix it?

A: This is a very common problem in this car. You can fix it yourself. It is not illegal to fix your own odometer, it is only illegal to tamper with it and try to misrepresent the actual mileage of the car. If it broke and you fixed it, then all you have to do is say "the odometer broke, and I fixed it" when you go to sell it. IPD has a kit with the gear (the same gear breaks in all of them, including mine) and a DVD that gives step by step instructions on how to install it. It's a really small gear - but don't get too upset at the $50 price tag - it's much better than the $800 they would charge you at the dealer. Good Luck & Cheers!
