A: I would get the AWD T5...so nice. Be sure to get the manual though.

I have a Volvo S40 in 2005, so its the latest shape with the latest key. My dad has a 2008 BMW and his key charges from teh car, I was wondering if mine does the same?
A: No, the key does not charge from the car, however, if you leave the key in the ignition, it will drain your vehicles battery. You can leave the key in the car, just not in th ignition.

Q: Can I fix many problems on a 2006 or 2008 volvo s40 myself?
I want to know if I buy a later year volvo s40 if the average guy can replace a bad alternator, starter, timing belt, thermostat, brakes, fuel filter, water pump or would I have to take this car to the mechanic for that?
A: Well I would actually have the dealer do stuff like that.
Plus, I don't think that an alternator and starter would need replacing on a 06 or 08 Volvo.
But the timing belt, water pump and that will have to be done at a dealer or mechanic.
Fuel pump you can do yourself, thermostat, if you know where it is, you can try.
Brakes, ehh.... if you know, you can do it yourself.

A: Well this is internet where anything can be downloaded, unfortunately not everything will be easy to find. What I suggest is to go to your local auto parts store, or library and buy/checkout a service repair manual from either Chilton or Haynes. They make great repair manuals and make them for almost any car out there. As for the parts, again, buy online and give them your information, I'm sure anything can be shipped anywhere.

Other than return to the dealership, is there a way to reset the service reminder.
A: 1. Turn ignition switch to position I.
2. Press and hold "tripometer reset button".
3. Turn ignition to position II.
4. Continue holding day counter for about 10 seconds.
5. After Service Reminder Light flashes, release tripometer button.
6. Should hear "beep-beep" to confirm command accepted

I have read the Manual and find no mention of it!
A: Is it a 2004.5-2007? The clock setting button is next to (to the right of) the Function display on the instrument panel. It looks exactly like the trip odometer reset button, which is to left of the Function display. Twist the clock setting button to adjust the time.
Q: Im think of buying the newer volvo s40 but my local car garage said they are crap?
Are they? I have seen a lovely black one. 1.6 Diesel. My dad had 5 of them and he said they are great.
A: I love them and was really looking into it, but two mechanics told me it would be a waste of money. When I took my current volvo (a 91) in for service, the only cars being worked on were S40s and even the dealership service people (who didn't know I'd been there looking at their cars) admitted any Volvo's made after Ford bought them (mid 90's) aren't very great cars.
Honestly, I always trust my mechanic's opinion about cars. They don't have anything to gain or lose by telling you what they think about any model other than your repeat business which they get by warning you of potential problem cars.
Q: Own Volvo S40 with a bad cat. Will computer recognize aftermarket part and turn off check engine light?
Mechanic has advised me that if I use an aftermarket cat converter that the sw in the computer will not recognize the part. The check engine light will remain on. Is this true? If it is, is there a way around it?
A: my answer is try to check it out first on auto repair shop...

I have a volvo 2003 but the problem is that I need the stereo code and I don't know it. If you know it can you please tell me.
A: If you currently have a repair shop that does you maintenance work for you, call them and ask if they would get the code for you. We do it for folks all the time. Your shop will need the VIN (if they don't have it on file) they will call the dealer and ask for the code. I you use the dealer yourself for service, or you purchased the vehicle at the dealer, call or visit them yourself. Be sure and write the code number down and put it in the owners manual packet for future reference.

Q: Does anybody know how to repair a seatbelt on a Volvo S40?
I want to fix a frayed seatbelt on my car, but I am not sure how to accomplish this sort of thing. Is this something that an average joe can fix, or do I need to go to a professional? The seatbelt got frayed by rubbing against the plastic framing that it comes out of. This is a 2000 S40. Hopefully, I will be able to get a replacement at a junk yard and fix it myself. Thanks for your time!
A: Always replace the old belts with brand new ones. have it done in the dealer. The money that you pay gives you the peace of mind. There's a lot of damage that can be done to your car from a wrong installed belt!
Q: How do I replace the antenna mast on a Volvo S40?
I am trying to take off the bolt that holds the mast in (on the outside of the car). I can turn it all the way to the top of the bolt but it just keeps turning without coming off. Is their a trick to getting the antenna mast nut off? Why is it that fixing anything on these cars usually involves some off the wall technique?

Q: My Volvo S40 is running far louder than usual, what could be up?
My 2000 S40 just started running at a much louder volume than usual the past few days. It's coming from the engine, so I don't think it's a muffler problem. It's not an unusual sound, just my engine, but ridiculously loud. It's much more noticeable when accelerating. What could be up with it? I checked the oil, I'm fine on that. Otherwise, I'm stumped.

Q: which is more reliable and easier to fix a mazda3 or volvo s40?
I'm looking to buy a volvo s40 or a Mazda 3 and want to know which car is more reliable, which car is easier for me to work on myself, and if the volvo would be MUCH costlier versus the mazda for major repairs (alternator, clutch, starter, etc.).
A: both of these as well as ford focus were on the same platform, so even though there are many differences in these cars, the standard repair times will be similar for most repairs.
all three are lasting pretty well with the mazda having the least troubles with the gizmo accessories that plague all late model cars
the volvo engine runs the smoothest, the mazda is no slouch but a little busy at high r.p.m.
really between these 2 it comes down to perceived style and comfort,
verses initial price.
as far as o.e. parts go the mazda will be less expensive but aftermarket re-manufactured items are pretty much tit for tat for each.
rumor has it that the late model s-40 is on a differnt platform but i havent seen one yet
