Q: Hello, I have a 2007 Volvo xc90 Yesterday, I had a message pop up that tells me "Bulb Failure Position Light."?
The owners manual does not list a "position" bulb. And, as far as we can tell, no exterior light are out. Can you tell me what that is?
A: "position" lamps are what were once known as parking, marker, or running lamps these also include the side marker bulbs at the 4 corners of the car [these are separate from the parking bulbs, don't be misled at first glance, the light from the parking bulb can bleed over to side marker area giving the impression of a working bulb] also the rear tag lamp can trigger the same message.

A: Nice car, good ride, excellent safety features. Overpriced compared to some other similar vehicles. Doesn't feel as luxurious as it should for the price. Relatively low gas mileage. Earlier production and reliability problems have improved, but I don't think it rates up there with the most reliable. Its looks do grow on you after a while, but not like the old Volvos!
Q: What is the code to reset the message in my 2003 Volvo XC90 that reminds me I need regular service oil change?
A: I think this will work:
All models for 1999 and on can be reset by putting the ignition key into position I, push in and hold the odometer reset button (use your left hand), move the ignition key to position II, when the service light begins to blink,let go of the odometer reset button. Confirm by turning your Volvo off then on again.
If that doesn't work, you might try this:

Resetting the Service reminder indicator (SRI), model years -2001
The service reminder indicator (SRI) informs the driver that it is time for the car to be serviced. The lamp remains lit for 120 seconds when the ignition is switched on.
Note! If the lamp flashes, it may be because one of the service parameters has not been programmed.
Proceed as follows to reset the service reminder indicator (SRI):
-Ignition position I
-Press and hold in the reset button for the trip odometer
-Ignition position II
-The service reminder indicator (SRI) starts flashing when the reset button for the trip odometer has been pressed for 10 seconds
-Release the reset button for the trip odometer within 5 seconds. The instrument gives an audible signal when resetting has succeeded.
Note! If the trip meter reset button is not released within 5 seconds the indicator is not reset. However the indicator will stop flashing.

The service reminder indicator (SRI) informs the driver that it is time for the car to be serviced. The text message is displayed for 120 s each time the ignition is switched on.
Proceed as follows to reset the service reminder indicator (SRI):
-Ignition position I
-Press and hold in the reset button for the trip odometer
-Ignition position II.
Note! Turn the key to position II within 2 seconds.
-Hold the reset button for the trip meter pressed in until the original value has been reset.
Note! For all vehicles from the 2003 model year a general yellow lamp will light when the reset button must be released.
-Release the reset button for the trip odometer within 4 seconds. The instrument gives an audible signal when resetting has succeeded
-If the trip meter is already reset the reset button should be held in for a minimum of 10 seconds and a maximum of 14 seconds.
Note! If the reset button for the trip odometer is not released within 4 seconds, the service reminder indicator (SRI) is not reset.
Q: I couln't start my Volvo xc90 this morning. It says start prevention on the message board. What does it mean?
What do I need to do. I just drove another car i have.
A: i own a shop and it was the anti theft prevention that stopped it from running,you may try it again and it will start ok,they will do this from time to time,usually all you have to do is get out and lock the door with the key,and then unlock it with the key and it will start ,this is a flaw in the security system but it may do this occasionally on you ,good luck with it hope this helps.

Q: Should I buy a Volvo XC90?
I'm interested in buying a 2005 volvo xc90 t6 with 55,000 from a local used car dealership. It looks like it is in great condition, and I really like the safety features it has. The cost to upkeep the car is the only thing that worries me. Are the upkeep costs expensive? What about just a normal oil change or other minor maintenance service?
A: I would avoid it. It's very inefficient, and if anything goes wrong, it will cost you an arm and a leg to repair.
If you're in the market for a luxury SUV, I'd recommend a Nissan Murano SL. It's more reliable, more efficient, and cheaper to own than the XC90.
Q: Opinions on the Volvo XC90?
I am thinking about purchasing a Volvo XC90 for my mother for a "drive to the mall" car, has anyone had any recent reliability problems with it? comments/information?
A: That's one hell of a ride to go "to the mall". Sounds like she's a soccer mom. How much shopping do you do? DO you actually need an SUV to go shopping? Can't you settle for an S60 or S80 perhaps the new C30 would be better for a mother who wants to whip across town for shopping.

A: This question is lacking one very important detail, which engine option is included in the vehicle you are considering. The Xc90 comes in a 2.5 liter, 3.2 liter or a V8. Now I will give you my opinion. If the XC90 is a 3.2 liter or 2.5 liter, then I feel you are overpaying. Why? Because the 2007 model 3.2 liter with 0 mileage is listed at $36,135.00, that's only $3000 more than a used model with a 21,000 miles on it. The mileage on that vehicle is typical for a 2 year old car, but the depreciation is much more. I would not pay a cent over $28,000.00
On the other hand if it is a V8 model, which the 07' model lists for $46,000.00 then you are getting a fair deal, because they built in the depreciation and mileage factors.
By the way, I did some research and you can find on several other sites like Edmund's pre-owned Volvo xc90 2.5 liter Turbo, AWD for around $28,000.00. Good Luck

Im looking to help my dad swap my moms current car for the XC90 that she has wanted for a long time. Anything bad about the car.
I know the T6 has lots of issues so i am going to stay away from a T6.
Other than that i have notticed the T5's are pretty reliable and dont have any issues...

Q: how did you get a rear wheel off on a Volvo xc90? My son is stuck in rural Alaska and has a flat tire. Help?
A: after the lug bolts are off and the wheel still won't come off, normally the wheel is rusted on to the hub.The wheel being aluminum and the hub steel when the two differnt metals rust up or oxidize the rust from the steel and the oxidation from the aluminum bonds pretty good. Try kicking the wheel from the back side or put a piece of wood against the rim and hit the wood to break it free. A few good hits and it should come apart.

We are in Australia. All the dealers we have spoken with here, look at me silly, when I tell them you can buy the extenders in the US. They keep insisting there is nothing in the market place. Volvo customer service has been less then helpful. They also deny the existence!!
