Q: Does anyone here own a kia sportage?
I've got a kia sportage 2001 when i go up a large hill it car hits 3 1/2 rpms when i get to the top it will shift down with no problems with shifting.feels like its winding out.but its not is that bad for the catalatic converter?just kinda looses power on Lg.hills the kia dealer says its normal its a very heavy car and that all kia sportages do that.Just doesn't have the pep like a normal 4 cyclinder car.

A: I own a shop, but not a Kia Sportage. We have worked on many of them, and I live in the mountains. What you are telling me in pretty normal for most any 4 cylinder vehicle. If an engine doesn't make much power, then they must make up the difference by using gears. Its normal for a vehicle to keep the engine speed up as it goes up a hill. The drawback is; transmissions tend to heat up, and heat is 90% the cause for transmission failure. Many people (me included) have an extra cooler installed for the transmission, and this is almost a "must" when dealing with long hills. This rings expecially true if you have passengers that ride in the vehicle too. As far as harming your cat converter; no it doesn't harm it, but the engine will heat up, and lose power on a long hill if its pulling a lot of weight, as in 4 passengers, and a trunk full of junk. You might want to consider having the timing belt checked, as this can be the cause of a loss of power. Most manufactures recommend changing this belt at or near 75,000 miles, so this may be what is causing a loss of power. One thing for sure is; the Kia Sportage doesn't have the power one would expect from the engine, but then again Kia is build as cheap as any vehicle can be, and power in any vehicle comes with a price tag. The stronger the vehicle is; the more the vehicle will cost. Just go up hills like this slow & steady, and adding an extra cooler for the transmission will help keep both the engine & transmission cooler. Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Q: I have a 2000 Kia Sephia 5spd, intermittent miss, almost died at lights, lacks power- esp. on accl from curves?
Replaced spark plugs in November, wires yesterday. My fuel filter is strange, It is suppose to have 2 ports on btm and 1 on top (all after markets &KIA dealer have these), mine only have 2 on top- no one know why. My miss started after an accident in July, prior to that the only issue I had was, that when I would fuel up, it would have to crank along time to start and would try to die until I had gone 1/4-1/2 a mile. Got any ideas what the issue is?

A: Sounds like you need to replace the fuel pump assembly and clean the System check the fuel tank for damage there may be issues with this.

Q: Should I (New Jersey resident) change Car Insurance to Liability Only since I just paid off my 2001 Kia Rio?
I purchased it brand new from a Kia Dealer in 2002. It was a 2001 leftover. It is in Very Good Condition, since I drive like a Grandma Moses (LOL), don't drive any kids or pets around, and have only put 49k Miles on it. According to the the Kelly Blue Book it is worth $4000, if I were to sell it privately. Since I live in New Joisey, (yo hey! hey yo! come ova hee-yah!), WHERE CAR INSURANCE IS SKY HIGH - I would really love to reduce the car insurance payments. I am going to keep it for a few more years. Tell me what you think! Thank you!! PS: I have never been in any accidents that were my fault. I have an excellent driving record.

A: You need to decide if you drop full coverage to liability can you afford to loose approx.$4000. as you say tomorrow if you are in a wreck and total it out. Because you will be out that money if it is your fault or run into on of these smart people who think it is fun to drive around with no insurance.

Q: Where can I go to get a list of the original equipment my KIA came with. I am second owner, problems.?
Dealer gave me a printout that said running boards. Then told me that was an error.

A: What wrong to your car? Sold off the car and never never buy a Korean car again....

A: You buy it , i'll drive it down there

Q: What is the dealer's invoice price for the Kia Sportage?

Q: dealer will sell me an auto kia rio5 for $300 over the 5spd, is it worth getting the auto? i like to drive?

A: yes, changing gears gets old fast .

Q: With Kia's 10 year warranty how often does your car need to be serviced by KIA
I'm recieving marketing letters with marketing phrases like "dont let kia void your warranty" The flyer seems to bit a inconsistent with my owners manual though. The owners manual shows I need service every 7500 miles though kia's marketing letter say you need ervice every 5000 miles. I just dont want to spend 80 bucks on a dealer oil change where all you get is an "inspection" of the rest of your car. i'd rather spend 20 bucks at the carspa down the street and get a free car wash....oh yea free wifi while im waiting. If someone could clarify the service rules that would be awesome.

A: You can do maintenance work anywhere you want as long as you can prove that it was done according to their specifications. They cant require you to use the dealer. As for what to do when. Go with the manual. You have to assume that they made those to promote a long vehicle life especially when they have such a long warranty and are attempting to prove they make good cars. For the 1st guy. You get a letter in the mail when your car is recalled telling you the problem and how to safely get it fixed. You can also look up that info on the internet.

Q: How can I get out from under my $9000.00 upsidedown car loan.?
I have a 1994 Ford Expedition that is $9000.00 in debt. I tried the Kia dealer but they said I would need an 850 beacon score to get "out from under the car loan". Is there any other options? With gas prices as they are, there isn't a private buyers market for SUV's.

A: First off, there was no such thing as a 1994 Expedition. Was that a typo? If you are truly $9,000 upside-down, you're pretty much stuck. The credit crunch is killing everyone right now, and banks are not overallowing that much negative equity onto new car loans. Even if you could find a bank that would finance that much overallowance, you're looking at adding another $200/month to a new car payment. So, realistically, you'd kill any gas savings or payment savings by trying to add on that negative equity. You've pretty much listed every reason that put you in the predicament you're in (gas prices, soft market on SUVs, high credit score needed for overallowance). Best advice (whether you like it or not) is to keep that SUV and try like heck to double-up on payments. "Is there any other options?" - No. There is no magic way to erase that much negative equity. No dealer can "hide" that much in a new loan. No rebate is that large right now (and even if it was, it's not worth it to take, as all it does is put you right back where you started, and defeats the purpose of the rebate to begin with). Don't feel frustrated. Thousands of Americans are in the same boat.

Q: Car loan: go to the bank or car dealer?
I was planning to buy a car (but wanted to save money as much as I could), KIA dealer is offering me 0.09% financing for a 2008 model, but I'm originally planning to buy a used car & get a bank loan instead. Is it wise to go for a more expensive car for what KIA is offering & forget my original plan? Is bank financing interest better than dealers? Please help..I'm getting confused

A: Out of all of GMans answer, there is a sentence of truth... First off, if you can get 0.9% APR, take it. Your bank will not match that. So if you want the new car, that is the best deal you will get. As a dealer, we do not carry the loan. So, contrary to GMan, when you are "dealing" with a bank later for refi, that is the same whether you get your loan directly from the bank, or with the dealer as your agent. See, as a dealer, we act as your liason to secure financing. Dealers take the application, do all the contracts, etc. Then, we shop the loan to 4-5 banks most liikely to accept the contract. Whichever one gives the best call, gets the loan. So even though you GOT your financing through the dealer, you are still FINANCED through a bank. The one thing that Gman has right is that dealers make profit when we place loans. The dealer is paid a flat rate comission for the loan, or is allowed a percentage of the interest called "reserve". Most lenders cap the reserve at 2% of the total APR. So if we get a bank approval at 5% we are allowed to write the contract at up to 7% - dealer keeps the 2%. However, with that in mind, cash is NOT an incentive to us. That is a holdover from the old days. As recently as 3-4 yrs ago, some banks still mailed checks for loans. Dealers would sometimes wait a month to get paid - so cash talked. Now, banks fund loans within hours, and pay by wire transfer. Bank financing is actually better for us, since it is s secure transaction. Your paying cash actually removes an area of profit. So the cash customer who wants to demand the sun and moon may not get much leniancy. If we know we are not making any profit in the finance office, why give away ALL the profit on the car too? If we stand to make a few dollars in finance, you might get some extras on the car. The deal has to make sense - we are not charities. I know that makes some people angry - but every single business has to make profit somewhere - and ours is some of the lowest markup on anythng you ever buy. Your best bet is to use a combined approach. Go to lendingtree.com, eloan.com, or capitalone.com and get approved for your loan there. They will get you the best possible rates and terms. When you go to the dealer, instead of being cute, just be honest and up front. Tell them you have a preapproved loan, and the terms -- lets say 6% APR for 60 months.... the dealer will offer to meet or beat the financing. If he can, let him. Then both sides win. you get a better deal, or at least the same deal, and the dealer retains some incentive. If they cant meet it, then you know you already have the best financing arranged. By doing this, you are left free to concentrate on the purchaase price of the car rather than monthly payments. You will already know what your payments are for a given amount. So you can work on the top line price without stressing over the monthly note. Hope that was some help!

Q: Hyundi SantaFe All Wheel Drive versus Dodge and Kia 4Wheel Drive?
Anyone own a Santa fe ? ] I am trying to decide what car to buy. I have the dealers of the following vehicles all at the same price level 20,000-22,000 but am leaning towards the SanteFe all wheel drive . What are the pro's and cons and would you recommend it over the following vehicles all are 4X4 versions . Which one gives a smoother ride too. All are in the same $20,000 ---$22,000 price range Dodge Nitro; Kia Sportage 4 wheel drive ; Kia Sorento 4 wheel drive

A: the santafe & sportage are the same exact chassis so thats an awnser to one. the sorento is actually a truck type chassis so it will tow & do better off road. the nitro is pretty much just a street awd system. the santafe & sportage ride fairly well i think. nitro is a little harsh at times & the sorento rides very well for a truck chassis 4wd.

Q: I don't want my Kia is there anyway to give it back to the dealer?
I went into the Kia dealership and drove off with my Kia Rio, but ended up not getting financed because my co signer quit her job and the bank dropped us. I'M SO DONE WITH KIA my friend quit her job because she got a new job that paid more money!! that way it'd be easier to afford the car if i needed help with any payments!!!

A: you better take it back to the dealer or he will report it stolen

Q: Where could i find a Valve Cover for a 01 Kia Rio?
I asked a dealer ship they are asking 180 thats a little over my budget for the valve cover

A: Junkyards are your friend (should be plenty of them there *roll eyes*). Of course the dealer is going to charge out the wazoo for them.

Q: Would these be rountine maintenance on a Kia? Contemplating small claims court.?
When we questioned a dealer about a Kia we ultimately ended up purchasing he assured us just "routine maintenance" had been done. Two weeks after bringing home the vehicle it began overheating and was undriveable. When we took the car to the same mechanic who had worked on it, we were surprised to find out the water pump had been replaced as well as the timing belt and several other repairs. My question is would these repairs fall under minor rountine repairs or should the dealer disclosed this information to us? We don't want to be stuck with a "dead horse" so to speak. If this salesperson was misleading we have a good chance of getting our money back from what I understand. To lawmarine83: You are an idiot. I didn't ask for legal advice. I asked for people with mechanic experience to tell me if these were major or minor repairs. There is such a thing as truth in disclosure. By choosing to hide these repairs, they also chose to deprive us of our right to choose a different vehicle with a "cleaner" history. Some people would choose to not buy a vehicle with a laundry list of problems that the most obvious ones were fixed to get it off the lot. It could indicate a history of abuse from the previous owner. The dealer obviously knew we might feel like that. No, the vehicle is not fixed. It's currently at the mechanic waiting for a diagnoses. I DO NOT want your opinions on a court case I ONLY want to know about the classification of these two repairs, unless of course you're a lawyer in MT, in which case I'd like to ask you more questions. Thanks.

A: Depending on how old the vehicle is, yes -- water pump and timing belt replacement are routine. In fact, on many vehicles the water pump is included when replacing the the timing belt because there is much greater access to the unit with the belt off (Nissan Quest, for example). Since a water pump is fairly inexpensive it is usually replaced as added insurance for the cooling system upkeep. Timing belts HAVE to be replaced every 40 to 60 thousand miles or risk massive engine failure (see your owners manual for specifics).
