Q: I have a 97 Lexus ES300 and the display on the radio just went. Dose anyone know how much thats going to run?
I love my ES300.. never had any problems with it, just need to change oil, tires and breaks. other other than that, nodda. i wish this didn't happen. would i have to take it to the lexus dealer? whats the dealieo. consumer report reports that the audio system is not good. so i guess this is what they were talking about.
A: You should either seek out a working radio that fits your car from a junkyard or just take the plunge and upgrade to a much higher quality aftermarket unit from a reputable manufacturer like Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, or whatever you find out there that tickles your fancy among other things.
Q: I have a 97 lexus es300 the dealer said to change the egr valve, can i use a aftermarket one or orig eq only?
the cars drops idle to 2-300 rpm at red lights and when i am driving at mod speeds it will accelerate slightly gas mileage is baadd. the dealer said its the egr valve and are charging $219 for the original part or i can get one from autozone for 133$. is there a big difference between them ? ALso does it sound like the egr, i have recently replaced the fuel filter, and idle air conrol valve at the dealers sugesstion and it still does the shaking.
A: EGR valves usually just need cleaning and your dealer didn't want to take the time to do it. He'd rather charge for a new EGR. However, you can try to clean the EGR after studying up on it a bit. Check http://www.autozone.com http://www.partsamerica.com for parts costs.
When you remove the EGR, make sure to clean out the adjacent exhaust gas passageways that get clogged up and could also be part of the problem.
Q: Hi, if anyone can help please. I have a Lexus GX 470. I wonder where the Transfer Case Oil is located. Thanks
There are 2 things I would like to learn to do it myself. 1- Differential oil change. 2- Transfer case oil change. I, however, have never done it before. If there are tips of how to do it yourself, that would be very helpful. I really appreciate your help. I live very far from the Lexus dealer, therefore learn how to do it would save a lot of time. Thank you very much.
A: Make sure you get the right fluid. There are many types on the market now and if you do not use the correct fluid, you can spend alot of money having these gearboxes replaced.
Q: Do dealers like Lexus, BMW, Acura, and Infiniti negotiate on new cars?
If so, how much of the MSRP do they typically knock off?
A: Yes they do. It depends on the demand and supply of the car however. Typically it isn't unusual to see a discount of about $2000.00 or more. Newer models may be less and year end models have higher discounts. For example an Acura dealer will knock off about $2300.00 on a Acura TSX and an Infiniti dealer will knock off about $2500.00 on an Infiniti G. These all apply to all models as dealers are willing to negotiate since there is so much information available on the internet. The most common practice dealers will sell for is invoice pricing (the alleged price that the dealer pays for the car - not true) and it is usually about $2000.00 less than msrp. Although you can almost always get better deals on most cars.
Q: in urgent plz,I have black smoke come out of my Lexus SC 400 back ,any one can help me?
I have black smoke come out of my Lexus SC 400 back ,any one can help me? nothing happen at all when I take off the air sensor electric connection ,or there any website that I can find the info to help me out ? this my Q
Answered by MR.Gordon B
It sounds like the automatic choke (or cold start fuel enrichment valve in an injected car) is stuck. Black smoke indicates unburnt fuel... This should only be happening after it has run for a few minutes and warmed up.
The connection to the vehicle computer may be bad, not allowing the induction mixture to lean after warming up.
answered by Mr. Doug K
Black smoke from the tailpipes is indicative of your vehicle running extremely rich (too much fuel.) Any good mechanic should be able to narrow that down using typical troubleshooting techniques. More than likely a sensor has gone bad, or a connection to a sensor is loose, but that is any number of sensors or combination of sensors. Get the car scanned with a CEL (check engine light) code reader to help find the problem.
My New Q to every one can help me !
its true ,I have the black smoke as soon I start the car at cold status, and it stay smoking even when it warmed up , the automatic black choke located on the center of the motor I have take it off and see that its working good , can you help me out to find A troubleshooting techniques of making shore if the induction mixture sensor working and leaning the mixture after warming up ! about the (cold start fuel enrichment valve) ist the one located on the right up of the motor with the water hose connected to it ? plz help :) the car is imported from the states and in its year made it never been imported by the local kuwaity Lexus dealer so there is no code reader for it and even they do not allow it to be troubleshooting at the service center cose they do not have the maintenance Manuel or the code reader thanks allot in advance for your very kind help .
A: its burning too rich,or the cat is clogged.mine did that too,and also blackened up the plugs and the 02 sensor too.it was the cat.
Q: Is it okay for a Lexus a tune-up at the Toyota dealer
My Lexus RX has a plastic cover underneath my car and it's halfway loose, I may need a new one ordered. Also, I need a 5K tune-up (oil, check brakes, tires, air filter, etc.)
Toyota can do the tune-up, but I'm not sure about that plastic part-
I need truthful advice on the difference if I take my RX to the Lexus dealer or the Toyota dealer for servicing.
Thank you in advance.
A: Go to the Toyota dealer.A lot of the parts are the same (Toyota vs Lexus).I see more & more Lexus vehicles at the Toyota dealership I work for mainly because the quality of work is the same but the price is much better. If it's under warranty...sure,go to Lexus. If you're refering to the plastic splash shield under the engine,It can likely be re-secured w/o replacing (not secured by the last place that changed your oil most likely-they should do it for FREE).If we need a "Lexus only" part we simply call the Lexus dealer & get it for you.In North Carolina (no city, please) we charge about $50 for a 5k.The Lexus store charges $125 (but washes your car for "free").You do the math.
Q: timing belt change for RX300 1998 Lexus?
Lexus dealer trying to rush me into changing belt for $1100. Know it must be changed periodically but if I wait awhile, can I damage anything? They say oil dripped on it from bad oil seal.
A: Check your owners manual, but most timing belts don't need to be changed before 100,000 miles. Timing belts (or chains) need to be replaced because they stretch over time, and can break.
However, if you got contaminents (oil, anti-freeze, etc.) on your belt, it is possible for them to break down sooner then they normally would. Get a couple of opinions. And why have the dealer do it, they are going to be more expensive than any other certified mechanic.
As far as waiting, if it needs to be done, then do it. If it breaks, it can cause a whole lot more damage to your engine, such as bending valves, that will cost a whole lot more in the long run. BTW, $1100 sounds like too much to be paying to change a timing belt. But it is the dealer.
Q: Lexus tire pressure sensor light came on?
My husband put air in all 4 yesterday and light turned off, but today it turned back on. Is there something a Lexus dealer would do differently? I don't want to shell out $ for air in our tires.
Would a Toyota dealer be okay if I have to take it in?
TIA!!
A: Depending on which vehicle you have, (RX, ES-as an option, LS, GX, LX) your spare tire will also have a tire pressure monitor. Be sure to set the air pressure in the spare. The is and gs
only have "donut" type spares. What happens is during the night the
temp in your tires drops, and so will the pressure (an understanding of science is need to comprehend this). During the day , or during driving the air in the tires will heat up causing the air pressure to rise. In any case you should have Lexus check out the low tire pressure light as this is a complicated system and are willing to explain in depth without charging you an arm and a leg. Hope this helps!

A: The only thing the dealer will do is repaint the bad panels on your car but if your not happy with that solution I would go see a lawyer and see what can be done.
Q: Electrical Wiring Diagrams for 2006 Lexus RX400h?
Lexus was vandalized and has harness cut and some parts were removed. I can get the parts, but no idea how to connect harness. Lexus dealer wouldn't even talk about looking/copying 'his' diagrams, Haynes does not have it, the car is in Europe and they don't have any information on that model there. Any suggestions?
A: Go to ondemand5.com and sign up for the service. Theres a cost but they have what you need.
Q: cheapest dealers that sells Lexus Rx 350?
A: Go to carsdirect.com and price the exact one you want. Then you can go to an actual dealer and have them beat the price. Most will since they want your business and you can bring the printout from carsdirect to show them that you definitely can get that kind of a deal somewhere else. If no dealer can beat it, you can just buy from carsdirect. I got my RX400 for $10k less by doing that.

A: Bad throttle position sensor telling the computer that you have the gas pedal pressed down and it thinks it needs more gas.
Where the throttle cable connects to the engine is a half moon shaped thing with two small screws holding it on.
Unplug wire harness to it and start it up again.
Q: Who designs a better vehicle? Lexus or Infiniti?
Some people say the lexus, others say infiniti. sometimes on sundays i go to dealership to see the newest and last vehicle out there. and just this pass sunday i went to the lexus dealer and the infiniti dealer. it seems to me that both cars are somewhat the same. now i have test drove a lexus and some people in my family have infiniti`s and both cars to me feel about the same, i mean after all they are both japanees cars. but which car will last longer? now to be honest with u i see a lot of "old school" (1990-1996)as they say, lexus out there more so than i see old school infiniti`s. my mother is not a fan of foregin cars, but two cars she would always talk about was the Q45 and the lexus LS400. my favorite was the Q45. but since they discontinued it, did the M45 take it`s place? i think that the lexus and infiniti are pretty cars, but who has better re-sale value. since one is made by toyota and the other made by nissan?
A: If I had to give the slight edge to one, it would be the Lexus. Yes they are both very good cars, but the service and support for Lexus is incredible, and it should be for a car in that price range.
Q: Help! 97 Lexus LS 400 owners/dealers/mechanics, tell me if I'm getting screwed...?
100k, CLEAN, $9850...the blue book said around 13-14,000??? Aren't these really expensive to keep up?? Explain if u can..
A: 10 yr old top of the line car, if anythig goes wrong which it will, do you have a grand in the bank to fix it? Great car, but it's not american so fixing will cost$$$ If you can get a loan for $12k put the $2000.00 in a reserve account otherwise buy a cheap America car. I know it's all about statis but come on, your really going from point a to b, it's just transportation buy what does not cost you a arm & leg, used lux -liners are for people who are very rich only they can afford to fix them!
