Q: Special tool for oil change on Mazda 626?
I change the oil on my pickup myself, I decided to start changing the oil on my wifes 2001 Mazda 626 to save a little money. The owner's manual says "Because you need a special tool to retighten the filter, an Autorized Mazda Dealer should do the work".
What special tool are they talking about? Do I really need anything other than my regular filter wrench?
A: Well, you're not supposed to ever use a filter wrench to tighten it, it only needs to be slightly tight or it will ruin the gasket. Have you looked to see if it's reachable even? If not it may be some kind of extension tool.
Q: Installing a aftermarket CD player in my 1999 Mazda 626?
I'm having troubles putting a new CD player in my Mazda 626. When I took my old one out I saw there were about 14 wires, but on my new one there are only 10. One of my friends said that I need a pigtail so that I don't need to cut the wires... So where can I get a pigtail that fits my car? Or what do I suppose to do?
A: Head over to your nearest car stereo place and let them know that you need a wire harness for a 1999 Mazda 626 with __________ brand ___________ model number CD player. You could probably find said unit online but you're probably anxious to get the installation done so I'd look locally so that you don't have to wait.

Q: Would a 1995 Mazda 626 Engine work properly if installed in a 1994 Mazda 626?
I have a 1994 Mazda 626, and its in need of a new engine. I have found a 1995 Mazda 626 engine at a reasonable price....but would it work properly in my car?
A: The 1993-1997 Mazda 626, Mazda MX-6, and Ford Probe all shared the same 2.0L and 2.5L engines. Those Mazda engines are all perfectly interchangeable amongst those three vehicles for 1993-1997 model years. So yes. It will interchange fine.
Q: How can I fix my mazda 626?
I have a 1998 Mazda 626 4 cylinder. Friday morning my fiance was headed to work. He reached the end of the driveway and it died. We pushed it back to the house since it wouldn't start. He changed the starter a coil. The car will turn on now and the engine will try to turn over but ends up just making like a whirring noise. Has anyone else had similar problems? Any suggestions?
A: Every engine needs 4 things to operate. Remove one and it will not run.
You need compression. Check timing belt.
You need fuel, observe intake while cranking over car.
You need air, which I'm sure you have.
You need spark, check plugs by "jumping" one of them.
If the car has a rubber timing belt, it may have broken.(not good)
It may be a faulty ignition part.
You may be out of gas or fuel may not be getting to the engine.
Check your owner's manual as well.
Q: what should be the tire pressure for a 2002 Mazda 626?
When i first bought my Mazda 626 the tire air pressure was set at 29 PSI.I recently saw on the side of the tires that it should be 44 PSI.i
Don't know if i have the proper air pressure in my tires. What should be the proper air pressure?
A: the proper psi on all tires except for heavy trucks are 32psi
even consumer reports says 32psi will help you with tire life, better gas millage and more safe on the road
over inflated will only cause problems
on the door there is a sticker with the vin number and stuff, sometimes the psi on the tires can be founded there
heavy trucks are 100psi just to let you know
Q: Installing Sony stereo and ipod adapter in a Mazda 626?
I bought a new sony stereo and ipod adapter for my 2000 Mazda 626. I have never installed a stereo before but think I might try instead paying to have it installed. Will this be difficult? Should I even attempt it since I have no experience with car stereos?
A: Sure... I'm going to tell you to go ahead and do it. Look at the radio on the Mazda 626 and on the left side of the radio you'll find a little piece that pops off as well as the right side... Use ford removal keys and the original stereo will slide right out. Now take the metal cage that came with the cd player and insert that in the space where you just took out the cdplayer ( should fit... I don't think 626 has a double din cutout anyways )... After that, go to Best Buy and buy a 2000 Mazda 626 Harness. Grab the wiring harness that came with you cd player and wire it color for color with the vehicle harness you just purchased from Best Buy. (ie: red to red, yellow to yellow, black to black, white to white, white/black to white/black... you get the idea.) The ipod interface on Sonys do not require you to tap into anything to get power... should be all plug n play, so that shouldn't be too hard to figure out... Anymore q's? Give me a shout... Hope that helps.

Q: How much should I expect to spend getting a new transmission on my 2000 Mazda 626?
at least I think that my transmission went out. I drove to the mail box, put the car in park, got back in the car, when i put it in drive it went in reverse. So i put the car back in park it still went in reverse. I was able to make back to my house, where i parked it and had to but the emergency brake on because it was still rolling in reverse.
A: I would say it is a linkage/cable problem, if you lift the bonnet and find on top of the gearbox the selector shaft and move it by hand to see if you can get forward. If it was a gearbox problem you would find putting it in drive you would get no drive at all in any direction.
Q: What is your experience with a 1999 Mazda 626?
It is in great condition. Never been in an accident. Asking price is $6,200. Need reliable car, good gas mileage, and longevity. Any info will be greatly appreciated!
A: I had a 1998 Mazda 626. Although an European model, both Europe and US versions used the same GF Mazda platform and same engines so the only differences were body shapes and interior styling.
I bought mine as a second hand car in 2003 in Britain, 2.0 liter engine, automatic transmission, 100 hp. The car had exactly 100,666 miles on the clock. It was rather neglected by the first owner but mechanically everything was OK. No faults. It had a automatic digital air-condition, two airbags, moonroof, power windows and mirrors, anti-lock brakes. Everything worked when I bought the car. I just replaced wear and tear parts like brake pads, shock absorbers and engine belts. Spark plugs too but that was because someone has put wrong ones in. The car was put on OBD scanner at Mazda dealer and no faults were found.
My average fuel consumption was, in US gallons, 30 mpg (35 highway, 25 city).
Late 90's Mazdas 626 have excellent reputation and should last really long.
When I sold the car in 2006 it had 118,000 miles on the clock and was still doing OK. I sold it an Australian speech therapist in London, she occasionally drops me an e-mail that the car is doing OK:-) I was never surprised by engine warning light or electronic glitches.
Here's the gallery of my old car, it looks different than the US Mazda 626 (and has a steering wheel on the wrong side:-), but as I said, mechanically US and European versions are identical - same platform, chassis and engines.

Q: MAZDA 626 '83 AUTO - How do I increase the Horsepower??
Hey! I have a mazda 626 '83 model. 2.0 L (Super Deluxe version) Its automatic transmission. I have put on a 2 inch sports exhaust running only the last metre or so from the back of the car. I have also lifter the lid of my air filter and put in a larger filter to increase airflow. ANY IDEAS TO EITHER GET MORE KM's PER FUEL TANK, OR TO INCREASE OVERALL HORSEPOWER OF VEHICLE??
(Im talking mainly low cost ways)! Thanks.

A: compressao of 0,6 installs a compressing turbo bar, it does not damage the engine and it increases harnesses it about 30%.
Q: What would I need to pull the engine fault codes out of a 93 Mazda 626?
I have a Actron code reader/eraser I have pretty much all the cables for obdII and chrysler/ford/GM obdI. I was wondering if maybe there was a special cable I could get for reading pre 96 foreign cars. I have read in a few places something about a ten pin or blink codes or something. Does anyone have any additional info please?
A: You don't need cables or scanner. Mazda doesn't offer live data, so the scanner is just an very expensive code reader.
Go here------>
http://autorepair.about.com/library/ts/obd-i/bl-dtcs-44a.htm
…and scroll down below the list of code descriptions for the procedure and an illustration of what you need to do to retrieve the codes. All it takes is a paperclip and the "Check Engine" light.
Happy Motoring
Q: What is the reason that my check engine light came on in my 1999 Mazda 626 five speed?
I know its not the O2 sensors because I just had them replaced, and I am still getting good gas millage with no abnormal engine noises.
A: you can take it to one of many places that has a reader and they can tell you. most places like autozone will check it for free or you could always go to a dealership and they can read it.
