Q: Mazda Protege transmission problems please help?
Any one replace/repair a transmission on a Mazda made in the 90s? I have a 95 Mazda Protege with transmission issues and I am trying to decide whether or not to fix it.
If you have fixed or replaced a transmission on a Mazda, could you please let me know how much it cost you, how long the new transmission lasted, did you have problems afterwards and if so how long afterwards? And if you know of a good repair shop in the Austin area, please let me know. Thanks!
It is an automatic.
A: there are some serious problems with this specific vehicle's transmission
i,ve heard that changing it will not guarantee that it won't fail again
check out the link for more info and get ready to get rid of it
Q: Is a Mazda Protege a good car to buy? would i be able to put body kits on it?
how much do u think i would have to pay for a mazda protege with like 90,000 miles or 100,000?? are they good running low maintenance cars? gas mileage?
i dont want to rice it up i just like the proteges with little spoilers than ones with no spoilers, like i like the boxier looking protege's
A: I bought a 1996 Mazda Protege 5 speed with 121,000 miles for $1900. Now it has 134,000 miles and it never gave me any problems. And I drive it hard and always rev to redline.
This is a reliable and fuel efficient car.
They are low maintenance cars. My car gets 32mpg city and 39mpg highway according to the internet. I average 30mpg with the way I drive.
The Mazda Protege is probably one of the best handling cars. Mazda is known for making great handling cars. It handles much better than the Corolla and Civic and Lancer and Impreza.
For a Protege with 90-100,000 miles should cost around $2200-2700.
There aren't that many options for bodykits. I have only seen 5 bodykits for my 96 Protege DX.
Q: Replacing front wheel bearing in 02 mazda protege?
How hard would it be to replace a front wheel bearing on my 2002 mazda protege? How much time and money am I looking at? Is it even worth it to do it myself, or am I better off bringing into a shop?
A: you are asking how hard could be do it for yourself ? your question have give the answer already.... do not attempt doing by yourself
the bearing is like 55$ and install take about 1hr so you will pay like 100 more or less for the labor
is not hard to do it but if you have never do it, that change the things , the guy above says you have to use a bench press but he is wrong, using that is the easy way but you can do it manually with a hammer and a heavy flat screw driver
i have two same year cars (protege) and it took me 25 mins for install doing manually but i have make that kind of job a LOT of times in other cars

Q: I have a problem with my transmission shifting in my 2000 Mazda Protege', what could be the problem ?
I just changed spark plugs in the Mazda Protege'. Before that the car ran ok.
A: Your spark plugs have nothing to do with your transmission so there is another issue you are having. Without more information it is impossible to diagnose.

Q: Does anyone know what could be the problem with my Mazda Protege?
I have a 1996 Mazda Protege car (automatic) and about a 1-1/2 years ago the trans started slipping. I remedied at the time with trans fix/medic and since then it has not slipped. Do u think my tansmission is bad or could it be an oil pump? I don't think my trans would be holding up for so long if that was the problem.
Recently, I have noticed that after moving off in my car, the RPM goes very high before switching to another gear. Once it takes it's first shift, it works fine thereafter. Any ideas???
A: There could be any number of things wrong with your transmission. I am not sure as to what you have already done to your car. But i hope this helps. your transmissions shifting is controlled by individual pumps which activate differnt cluches on different planetary gears. It could be that your cluch plates in your transmission are getting worn. Or you could hav a problem with your transmission pumps. a transmission flush could remedy some of these problems but it is hard to say for certain.
Q: Whats a good performance muffler for a 2001 Mazda Protege?
I'm trying to squeeze a bit more power put of my 2001 Mazda Protege for as little money as possible, I've already added a K&N air filter and now I'm thinking a muffler is a good next step. basically I just want maximum flow for as little money as possible so I'm wondering what type of muffler to get.
A: Racing Beat could be an option you can take a look at.

Q: Is the computer chip actually part of a 97 Mazda Protege engine?
6 months ago Mazda put a new engine in my Protege and yesterday the check engine light came on. This past week I had noticed the car smelled like it was running hot but the indicators on the panel were all fine. When the light came on we noticed in my parking spot that it had been leaking some oil. We called Mazda and they said it was OK to drive and brought it to them the next day. The light had gone out after driving it for 5 minutes but after about 10 minutes when I had to slow down and pay at the toll booth it started to pour out white smoke from the tail pipe for a few seconds. Mazda tells us that it is the computer chip and that has nothing to do with the engine itself, so therefore, it is not covered by the warranty. The oil leak was caused by a dirty oil filter he said and could be fixed by an oil change, which was do, but had just been done by them and was not that overdue and not that many miles have been put on it. I'm just afraid they are taking advantage of me.
A: It does sound like they are taking advantage of you. Wehn a check engine light comes on, the computer is being told that there is a problem with one of the sensors inputs, or reading. So the light is set on to inform you of a problem. Hence, spend the money and get the check engine codes...etc etc. But, for a new engine to leak oil, sounds very odd, then so does the white smoke coming out the tailpipe. Would seem that they didn't top off antifeeze properly, and had a huge airpocket, causing the light to go on. Just a guess though. I'd try another dealer, without the first ones knowledge and get a second opinion. Also, have hubby, or B/F there for back up, as it seems mechanics won't try as hard to screw people over. Hope that was a little helpful.
Q: My 1995 Mazda protege brakes locking up?
I recently purchased a 1995 Mazda Protege. The brakes are locking up. Looked at the brake fluid and noticed it was red. took it to a mechanic and was told it may be transmission fluid in it instead? Dont know what color brake fluid is suppose to be in a Mazda. Was also told that i would have to change the master cyclinder. Would I have to? or being charged money for nothing?
A: wow some one add wrong fluid which can cause contamination in brake system its already burning up all the seals in master cylinder brake calipers or brake wheel cylinders its major job and its not safe to drive sorry..
